This wonderful adventure begins with the pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at 5.30 am and then transports you to Calca, where you can see the market products in Calca if you wish. It will be the place where you can have breakfast or coffee, and then continue for 2 more hours to the thermal baths of Lares. Once you arrive, you will have 2 hours to enjoy the thermal medicinal waters of Lares (3,250m/10,662ft). After lunch, you will start your hike in the direction of Cuncani (3,800m/12,467ft), where you will camp. From the thermal baths, the trail begins with a 3-hour ascent to the camp of Cuncani, where you will spend the night in the middle of local people’s houses.
Today, day 2, you will wake up with a coca tea in your room service tent, with different sounds such as birds and alpacas. That will transport you to the world of the Incas. And later, just before you start walking, you will be able to see children going to school in their local uniform. That will be a reason to know how happy they live, even though they don’t live in the same condition of life as other city children. Afterwards, we will drive uphill to the Sicllacassa pass (4.800m/15,748ft), passing several lakes and mountains with glaciers that will fill you with pure energy, and the total silence of the cars; only the birds singing will fill you with energy.
After the Apacheta Pass, you will have a 40-minute descent where you will have lunch in a qeuña forest (native plants of the area). After a siesta, you will continue your trek downhill for another hour to the campsite Pacchayoc (3600m/11,800ft), where you will spend the night in a different environment.
This day, you will wake up to the singing of birds, and our trekking team will wake you up with coca tea. To continue your journey after a healthy breakfast, your morning will start with a 2-hour descent to the Pumahuanca community, where you will have lunch, and the transport will arrive to continue with your itinerary.
After lunch, it will be the last place to say goodbye to the mountain chef because after this moment the next meals will be in a restaurant. When you are ready, you will continue towards the salt mines of Maras, where your guide will explain this natural attraction; then the journey continues to Ollantaytambo (2,790m/9,150ft), where you will spend the night. Ollantaytambo is an ancient village since Inca times and part of the Sacred Valley.
Today will be another day of great importance: breakfast at the hotel, then continue towards the train station. Our train will be one of the first trains from Ollantaytambo to km.104 Chachabamba, where the short Inca Trail starts here is where you will have to show your ticket, which we will give you, as well as your original passport. The first archaeological centre will be Chachabamba. After exploring the place, you will climb for 2 hours to the next archaeological center, Wiñaywayna, where you will spend more time exploring as well as getting full of history that your guide will tell you, and you can also have your box lunch. Then we continue for another 1 hour to Puerta del Sol (Intipunku). This is the first point from where you will be able to see Machu Picchu from the top of a mountain.
After all the photos, another 45 minutes to Machu Picchu to take the classic photo and finish your day. Then you will leave Machu Picchu and take transportation from Machupicchu to Aguas Calientes town, where you will spend the night. Dinner in a tourist restaurant. Rest and get to know Machupicchu.
Day that everyone dreams to reach Machupicchu is the magical energetic place and there are no words to describe it is the day where you will be able to spend about two hours with your guide receiving the necessary information about this beautiful wonder then this mountain if you want to explore a little more please ask for a more Huayna picchu tiket which is highly recommended. After all this you will return to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then take a minivan to Cusco, where our service ends.

Why Choose the Lares Trek with the 2-Day Short Inca Trail?
This trip combines two experiences in one journey: living Andean culture on the Lares Trek and the iconic arrival at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate. You trade crowds for quiet mountain trails and traditional villages, then finish on the original Inca road.

All our guides are highly qualified, licensed professionals certified by GERCETUR and MINEDU. Every year they complete refresher courses in first aid and languages, so you are always in safe, well-informed hands.
Please review these recommendations to ensure you have the best possible experience on your adventure.
Important Information Before Your Lares Trek with Short Inca Trail
Please read these instructions from Guiding Cusco carefully before booking. They will help you prepare for your trip to Cusco, the Lares Trek, and Machu Picchu.
Acclimatization
The Lares Trek crosses high mountain passes at over 4,000 m [confirm the highest point], so we recommend spending at least one or two days in Cusco (3,400 m / 11,150 ft) before the trek to adjust properly. After Lares, the route descends toward the Sacred Valley and the Short Inca Trail, and finishes at Machu Picchu (2,430 m), where the air is thicker and your body can recover.
Do I need to be careful with what I eat?
Yes, it is highly recommended, and essential, to be careful with your food. Above all, maintain good personal hygiene when consuming any food or drink.
Briefing
A member of our team (your guide) will meet you at your hotel to explain the details of your trip: schedules, pickup times, weather conditions, and the size of your group. This meeting is important because it covers the final details before your adventure begins. [Add the usual briefing time.]
Where Can I Leave My Luggage?
Hotels in Cusco are used to multi-day excursions and will gladly store your belongings while you trek. If you are changing hotels, you can leave your luggage at our office, and we will keep it safe until you return. Pack only what you need for the trek in a small duffel bag and a daypack. [Confirm the weight limit per traveler for the porters.]
Can I Change My Trip Date?
No. Inca Trail permits, Machu Picchu tickets, train seats, and hotels are reserved in advance, and permits cannot be transferred or changed once issued. Please check your dates carefully before booking. [Adjust to your policy.]
How Do I Book My Trip?
To book the Lares Trek with Short Inca Trail, we need the following details for every traveler, through our booking form:
This information is required to purchase your Inca Trail permit, Machu Picchu entrance tickets, and train seats, so please double-check it.
We also require a deposit of US$ 411 per person to secure your spot. The balance is paid in Cusco, usually 2–3 days before the trek. Payments can be made by interbank transfer, online payment, Openpay, or through our website. (Online payment via We Travel has an 8% additional charge, and card payment via Openpay has a 5% additional charge. Payment in Cusco has no extra fee.)
The Weather
Weather in the high Andes can change quickly. On the Lares Trek, days can be sunny and warm, but nights are cold and temperatures can drop below freezing at high camps. Rain can appear at any moment, mainly during the rainy season (November to March). Machu Picchu is warmer and more humid, so layers are essential. A rain jacket or poncho is a must year-round.
What to Bring
Pack warm, layered clothing for changeable conditions:
Where Will We Be Dropped Off?
Our service includes pickup from your hotel (or a nearby location). At the end of the tour, we will drop you off at your hotel in Cusco. [Confirm the exact drop-off point.]
What Meals Are Provided?
During the trek, our cooks prepare fresh Peruvian meals adapted to dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free), with vegetables, rice, potatoes, meat, and more. [Confirm which meals are included in Aguas Calientes and Cusco.] Please let us know your dietary needs when you book.
Where Will We Sleep?
You'll camp 2 nights during the Lares section in tents with mattresses provided. The last night is in a 3-star hotel in Aguas Calientes. Upgrades to a single room or a higher hotel category are available for an extra fee.
How Difficult Is This Trip?
It's a moderate to demanding trip. Lares involves long days on the trail and high passes, while the Short Inca Trail is shorter but includes steps and uphill sections. Travelers who walk regularly and are well acclimatized will enjoy it much more. Our small groups and relaxed pace let you take the time you need to appreciate the views.
Should I Bring Extra Money?
Yes. Bring some extra cash in soles for emergencies, snacks, souvenirs, and meals not included.
Is Tipping the Staff Necessary?
Tipping is not mandatory, but it is customary to show appreciation to your guide, cooks, and porters after several days of hard work on the trail. Although our team receives fair wages, a tip is a meaningful gesture that motivates them to keep delivering great service. (Suggested amount: e.g. 10%.)
