The journey of Edwin & Lisbet, founders of Guiding Cusco.
Edwin Camala Founder & Lead Guide
My name is Edwin Camala; I am a tour guide and the founder of Guiding Cusco. I started this company with Lisbet Mamani in 2023 as an official authorized Inca Trail operator. Although we are a relatively young company, I have worked in tourism since 2010.
I started as an assistant guide but quickly became the main guide. Thanks to my efforts, I started leading groups to Machu Picchu via different routes like the Inca Trail, Salkantay, and Choquequirao. This allowed me to understand the real needs of travelers.
The Pandemic realization: It taught me that most travel agencies focused only on profit, forgetting the staff—guides, cooks, and porters. That inspired me to build a new challenge: Guiding Cusco. Visiting our beloved Machu Picchu is not just a trip; it is a pure connection with Mother Earth.
Lisbet Mamani Co-Founder & Manager
My name is Lisbet Mamani. I worked in different state companies and tourist agencies that did not value the effort given—asking for more and giving less. After having my first child, I realized I needed to build something where people are valued.
Thinking and analyzing thoroughly, we decided to grow professionally as entrepreneurs. Thus, Guiding Cusco was born: a sociable, friendly, and environmentally friendly travel agency.
During the pandemic, while we were unable to work, we channeled our ideas to make Guiding Cusco happen. Today, Edwin and I achieved everything we wanted: to work on what we are passionate about and show the world our culture through treks to Machu Picchu, Salkantay, and throughout Cusco.
