The Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca or Montaña de Siete Colores, is a natural formation famous for its multi-colored mineral stripes. It is one of the most popular destinations near Cusco and one of the most photographed natural wonders in Peru.
The summit is located at approximately 5,036 to 5,200 meters above sea level (16,522 ft). It is significantly higher than Cusco and Machu Picchu, so being well-acclimatized is crucial.
The hike is considered Moderate to Challenging, primarily due to the thin air and altitude. The terrain is gradually steep. It is not technical climbing, but the lack of oxygen makes it demanding.
You don't need to be an Olympic athlete, but a basic level of fitness is recommended. Most importantly, you must have spent at least 1 or 2 days in Cusco or the Sacred Valley beforehand to adjust to the altitude.
